Frequently Asked Questions
What is EXIF data?
EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is metadata embedded in photos by cameras and smartphones. It includes camera settings, date/time, GPS location, and more.
Which file formats have EXIF data?
JPEG files commonly contain EXIF data. RAW files also have extensive metadata. PNG and GIF typically don't contain EXIF data. Some cameras embed XMP data in other formats.
Why can't I see GPS location?
Many phones and cameras have location recording disabled by default for privacy. Social media platforms also strip location data when you upload photos.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. All EXIF reading happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your photos never leave your device — check the network tab to verify.
Why is some EXIF data missing?
Not all cameras record all fields. Additionally, image editing software may strip EXIF data. Social media platforms remove most metadata when you download images.
